A question I am often asked is “What is the new color for this year?” That is a hard question to answer because there is seldom just one color. And often we see a continuation of colors from the previous year.
Two of the major paint companies, Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams, have made their selections for 2021 and I thought I would highlight them here.
Benjamin Moore selected Aegean Teal, 2136-40. Andrea Magno, Benjamin Moore’s Director of Color Marketing & Development said “The color we surround ourselves with can have a powerful impact on our emotions and wellbeing.”
Aegean Teal is definitely a soothing color for the tumultuous times in which we find ourselves. It is a very comforting color when painted on your walls combined with atrium white trim. It certainly is a modern day color with the long lasting ability for you to enjoy for many years.
Sherwin Williams chose Urbane Bronze, SW 7048, for their 2021 Color of the Year. It is also a soothing color that adds warmth and comfort to our homes. As we continue to stay in our homes more, we look for nature inspired colors that make us feel like we are outdoors while we are inside our homes. This warm color is very cozy and pairs well with warm neutrals and bone whites.
Both of these colors can be used as the main color or the accent color. Both are understated which makes you feel relaxed when you enter the room. Keep your colors in balance with the dark, warm earthy colors and the warm lighter neutrals. Do not use equal amounts but have one color more dominant.
We are all after serenity in our homes. After looking at the same walls day and night for most of 2020, choose one of these inviting, relaxing colors and enjoy a new look for your home in 2021.
